Renovate It and They Will Come
For years, Corinne Straehle, owner of the Westbury Theater, has had a vision of Broadway road shows being performed in a landmark Long Island theater right here in Westbury. She envisions 1,000 people a night coming to admire the "castle of Westbury," to see a show and dine at area restaurants. The money they might otherwise have spent on an evening in Manhattan would be spent locally, boosting the economy and making Westbury a theatrical and dining hub.

Westbury Library Showcases African-American Talent
The Westbury Memorial Public Library was host to the 10th National African-American Read-In Chain on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 7. The Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English conceived the event in 1989 as a formal activity of Black History Month to broaden the public's exposure to literature by both new and published African-American writers.

Westbury HS Remembers Two Great Men
Westbury High School recently hosted the sixth annual Reid/Robeson High School Basketball Classic. Westbury hosts this boys basketball exhibition classic every year in honor of the late Westbury basketball coach Martin "Bunky" Reid and Paul Robeson, a civil rights activist in the early part of the century.
