Police arrested a 30-year-old West Hempstead man after he allegedly exchanged fire with a resident who police said is a licensed pistol holder.
According to police, on Monday, Aug. 25 at 9:50 p.m., a 35-year-old man exited his vehicle in the driveway of his West Hempstead residence and was confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
Police said the resident pulled out his handgun and, after being fired upon, returned fire. Both subjects fled the scene on foot, police said.
Police then arrested Jose D. Celis of West Hempstead and charged him with second degree murder, first degree robbery, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon.
The other suspect, described as a black male, 6' and wearing dark clothing is still at large.
