SYAC Travel Softball is in full swing with five teams in league competition this fall.
Three doubleheaders were played on fields around town this past Sunday under warm sunny skies. The Syosset Storm, competing in the U10 division of the NJBL League, won two games handily over the Nesconset Panthers at Syosset High School fields. The Storm prevailed 16-3 and 13-1 behind strong pitching from Laura Weintraub and Rachel Greenspan and tons of hitting and good baserunning.
Also playing at the high school was the Syosset Thunder, which topped the Ronkonkoma Cardinals in the U12 division of NJBL. They came from behind to win the first game 9-5 and then cruised to a 13-2 victory in the second game. Outstanding pitching was supplied by Danielle Zurek, Anna Lin and Alexa Beovich. The Thunder was aggressive on the basepaths, and it paid off for the hot team on a hot day.
The Syosset Xtreme split a pair with the Brentwood Pirates. They won the first game with a big eight-run inning and finished 10-5 behind fine pitching from Lindsay Divack. The Xtreme threatened late in the second game but fell short 4-2 behind rock-solid pitching from Paula Janowsky and catching by Meri Millman. They compete at U14 in NJBL.
The Hurricanes, a U10 team, traveled to Manorville where they dropped two hard-fought games against a tough ESM Lady Sharks team. Pitching for the Hurricanes were Kayla Beovich, Rachel Hirschheimer and Priya Suresh.
The Syosset Cyclones, who compete in a U8 development league in North Bellmore/North Merrick, were rained out this week.
