Sept. 7, 2008 - Sunday was a gorgeous day.
It followed a night of torrential rain, compliments of the hurricane named Hanna. Buckets of water fell from the skies and huge trees shook from the accompanying winds.
The Sunday showed very little of the night before. Scattered leaves and tree branches were the only souvenirs. Sunday was a day to be spent outside the house but it was not to be. At 1 p.m. the N.Y.(?) Jets played the Miami Dolphins on Channel 2. A Battle of Quarterbacks - Favre versus Pennington.
At 2 p.m. the NY Mets are playing their arch enemies, the Philadelphia Phillies at Shea Stadium on Channel 60. My remote clicker was going crazy switching back between football and baseball.
The beautiful, sunny day was ebbing away. To complicate matters even more, the semifinals of the U.S. Tennis Open came on TV. Murray was playing Nadal to finish their match that was halted by Hanna the day before. Andy Murray was winning two sets to none. Yankees play at Seattle at 4 p.m. on Channel 70.
Four sports events were wearing out my thumb.
My constant trips to the kitchen for refreshments were becoming more frequent. My eyesight was getting blurry.
Update:
The Jets won 20-14.
The Mets lost 6 - 3
Murray beat Nadal in four sets.
What now! The Yankees lost 5-2
The second game of a day-night doubleheader started at 8 p.m. The Mets beat the Phillies 6-2 to avoid a sweep. Hallelujah! The game on Channel 36 ended at 10 p.m.
A quick tune to Channel 2 brought Serena Williams and Jelena Yankovic, the women's final. The two women battled gloriously until 11:45 p.m. in the evening. Serena triumphed 6-4 and 7- 5.
I must have been watching TV sports for 12 hours. I must be nuts.
Have I became a sports couch potato?
I wasted a magnificent day and all I have to show for it are empty bottles, pistachio shells and a blur in front of my eyes.
Never again!!.......... Maybe!
