Opinion

It is my pleasure to introduce myself to you as the new espicopacy appointed Pastor for the United Methodist church at Woodbury. As a native Long Islander I look forward to working with you in the spirit of community. I have worked in the world of business for several years and have served as a publicly elected school board member. I possess degrees from St. John's University and a Master of Divinity from New Brunswick Theological Seminary. I am a lifelong United Methodist and currently serve the New York Annual Conference as a probationary Elder. The mission of the United Methodist Church at Woodbury is to show our faith by our acts and so from August 28 until August 30, we will be hosting a Vacation Bible School Beach Party for children 11 years old and younger. We ask that nursery aged children be accompanied by an adult. Registration begins on Thursday, August 28 at 4 p.m. when we will hold a welcome dinner for participants and their families in order to introduce them to the program. Sessions will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude by 1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. We will celebrate the conclusion of the program on Sunday, August 31st at 9:55 a.m. during our worship service where certificates and prizes will be awarded.

The United Methodist Church at Woodbury has recently celebrated 150 years of service to this community which includes a long relationship with the INN, Habitat for Humanity and the Lighthouse Mission in meeting the needs of Long Island families. In addition, we host Scouting troops and several 12-step programs, support and advocacy groups. The United Methodist Church at Woodbury will continue to show our faith by our acts by offering support groups like the JOY group that meets on Monday mornings at 10 a.m. to play board games; Tuesday Bible Study at 11 a.m. and a Thursday morning prayer and communion service at 7 a.m. where breakfast is served. We hold our weekly worship services on Sundays at 10:55 a.m. with children's Sunday school during the worship service which begins after the youth sermon; and adult lectionary Bible Study at 9:30 a.m. We are a diverse congregation as we are a church for all people. We are located at 577 Woodbury Road (right turn on Jericho Turnpike near the Woodbury Commons). Feel free to contact me at 692-7179 or pastorgia@optimum.net, if you wish to pre-register for our Vacation Bible School or have any general questions or concerns.
