Corrie Wilder, a Syosset High School graduate, loved to dress her daughter in tights and other cute outfits, but then realized that the tights didn't have the traction on the bottom that socks offered. Her daughter would slip and fall and Wilder knew there had to be a solution.

Wilder met fellow mom Yelena Mogelefsky on their daily commute into the city. They shared stories about their kids and swapped information_ about kids clothing.

"We noticed that not all of our kids' socks had non-skid bottoms and none _of the girls' tights had them. Without the sticky "grippie bottoms" on their socks and tights,_ there was no way to avoid our kids slipping and falling on our wood and tile floors," said Wilder. "As moms, we were seeking a product made specifically to make regular tights and socks non-skid. We couldn't find it anywhere. We decided there must be other moms out there _looking for this product too. What do parents do when we can't find what we need? We make it ourselves."

Grippies were born. Grippies are made of a material that has a rubbery surface on one side and an adhesive on the other. The rubbery surface provides traction on hardwood and tile floors. Parents can apply as many individual grippies shapes they want, exactly where they need them.

There are two methods for applying grippies - iron-on and stick-on. They must be applied to clean, dry socks and once they are on, Wilder said they will last, even after going through the wash.

Wilder said that the concept became a reality thanks to their friends and families. "You can't do this kind of thing by yourself - we are fortunate enough to know great people," said Wilder, who also credited her time at Syosset High School.

"Syosset High School inspired my creativity and kept me motivated. I worked with great people there and was involved in band and art and where I went to school is very important to me," she said.

Grippies are available on-line at www.grippiesonline.com or at Woodbury and East Northport Gymboree Play & Music locations.
