Rachel Ray signs copies of her new cookbook

People were lining up at 4:30 a.m. Saturday at Syosset's Borders Bookstore to get a chance to chat with Rachel Ray and have a copy of her newest cookbook, Yum-o! The Family Cookbook, autographed and personalized. Ray arrived to eager fans at 3 p.m. and stayed until all 1,200 people had their books signed.

Ray, host of her own talk show, Rachael Ray, as well two Food Network shows and the best-selling author of 13 previous books, has helped families find time to fit home-cooked meals into their daily routines.

Ray's most recent venture is a family-oriented cookbook, which includes recipes that both kids and their parents will love cooking and eating together. "The recipes feature more whole grains, use less fat and make the most of fresh fruits and vegetables so they are as good for you as they are delish, and they're all quintessential Rachael-fun and creative," Ray states in her book.

The book also includes notes on how to get even very young kids involved in the cooking process; great ideas for everything from breakfast to the lunchbox to dinner; wholesome snacks; and double-duty dinners that let you cook once, then eat twice or more.

The new cookbook is released in coordination with Ray's organization, Yum-o!, which was launched in 2006 and is a nonprofit organization that empowers kids and their families to develop healthy relationships with food and cooking by teaching families to cook, feeding hungry kids and funding cooking education and scholarships.

"We hope to eradicate hunger. We are all hungry for something - success, recognition, but to be truly hungry for food is a brutal, awful thing. I am hoping that our organization helps to eradicate that," Ray said in an interview with the Syosset-Jericho Tribune. "Everything we do is important to me - our scholarship program, our awareness program, getting families in the kitchen and cooking with their kids."

All of the proceeds from sales of this book will be donated to Ray's charity, Yum-o! For more information, please visit yum-o.org.
