One of the most famous remarks by Sigmund Freud when speaking of phallic symbols was, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

To a true cigar aficionado, a cigar is never just a cigar.

(1) A cigar is a moment of relaxation.

(2) A cigar is a moment of pleasure.

(3) A cigar is a delicious taste that lingers after the cigar is a pile of ash.

(4) It is the last, final touch to a great breakfast or a fantastic meal.

(5) A cigar is a promise of 20 minutes of sheer enjoyment.

Let me state categorically that cigars are never to be inhaled through the lungs. I have never smoked cigarettes but I am aware that they don't have the aroma, or the taste or the body of a worthwhile cigar.

I was walking on Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street in Manhattan and I noticed that the famous Nat Sherman Cigar Store on the Southeast corner was no longer there. I winced to think that a business that had been in existence since 1930 was gone. But joy of joys, I found it had relocated on 42nd Street opposite Grand Central Station.

I bought a five-pack of cigars after a long chat with a well-lit and puffing cigar salesman and walking through their divine smelling, huge humidor room. I could not wait to take my treasure home and light one of my prize cigars. My every expectation was fulfilled. It was delicious.

I had to share my good luck with somebody. Nick is a longtime resident of Hicksville. Nick Graziose works at The Hamlet, my condominium. He has recently written Golf articles in this column. He is rarely without a cigar in his puss, so I gave him a cigar and I asked him to review the smoke from an expert's point of view.

"Being a cigar smoker, I am always glad to get a free cigar and to get a high-quality one is extra nice. Recently, I was given a cigar- a Nat Sherman - an old and respected tobacco company. I have had this brand before but with the high cost of this brand, only once.

The person who gave me this fine cigar wanted a review of it. Stan, well here it is: "It was a size that suited me, different cigar smokers like different sizes. At the start it was sweet and had a nice aroma, it reminded me of the old days when my father and I went to the Yankee Stadium and smoking was legal and the smell of cigars filled the air. The middle of the cigar more oakie and nutty. The finish was like a nice dry red wine. All and all it was a great smoking experience."
