The Village of Roslyn Estates has approved a local law, one that amends certain provisions to the village's building permit codes.
Local Law 3, which was approved at the June meeting, stipulates that any application for a building permit on the exterior of a building or structure has to be made to both the Building Inspector and the Architectural Review Board.
In addition, no building permit will be issued on any proposed work where there is an existing violation of any village building code. The only exception is exterior work that attempts to cure the existing violation or one that concerns a sanitary system or a cesspool.
In such an emergency situation, the new law allows for the Building Inspector, upon payment of a designated fee, to issue a temporary building permit for two weeks.
A temporary building permit will not be renewed or extended unless the applicant can produce a good cause, such as protecting the public health or safety.
In other news, the Roslyn Water District recently approved a resolution, one that would draw the sum of $390,000 from its Capital Improvement Fund.
The district has determined that its water distribution system is in need of a significant upgrade and so it plans to use the sum to replace a water main at Glen Cove Road in Greenvale.
In addition, the Village of East Hills, at its June 23 meeting, made its own change in the village code.
The village board of trustees approved a local law to amend the rules of its Park at East Hills. It authorized the immediate suspension of park privileges for any East Hills resident who fails to pay a fine or penalty levied against him at the East Hills Justice Court.
