Coming into Sunday's playoff competition, Rich Lituchy's team stood to get a bye to the finals, as long as the early game between Eric Kobrick and Stew Faden's team was decided by seven runs or less. Given how equally matched the teams appeared, the contest looked to be a close one. Yet, Eric Kobrick's powerhouse, behind Jed Schlacter on the mound, overcame Stew's team, 18-6 earning a bye to the final and forced Rich Lituchy's team to earn their way into the final through another victory. This did not occur when they lost to Bobby Wolf's team 6-3, after Jeff Boshnack pitched a stunning game. Bobby Wolf's team then beat Eric Kobrick's team 5-3 in an exciting, action-filled championship game Sunday at the new Park at East Hills.
After five years of participation at Harbor Hill Elementary School, this year the first competition was held in the Park at East Hills. Mayor Koblenz once again did the honors as he threw out the new first pitch. The mayor and board have been strong supporters of the tournament each year. Emily Hauser sang a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem before the games began. Throughout both days of competition the sun shone brightly on the Fifth Annual Mayors Trophy Tournament.
