The first grade girls of the Roslyn Booster Basketball Club and their dads played in what is believed to be the league's first-ever father-daughter hoops game. It was hard to tell who had a better time - the girls or the dads - but suffice it to say, it was a great time. For nearly the entire hour, the girls played their hearts out and because it was their first time playing on 10 foot hoops the dads were on the court to help out.

Samantha Busch (4 points) and Nikki Brzostovski (2 points) led the scoring and played great defense. Sally Solomon was all over the court and showed off her great ball handling skills. Nikki Hollander, Julia Furnari and Isabel Arnowitz handled the ball well and made some beautiful passes. Catherine Korren, Frankie-Lynne Conklin, Ruby Miller, Jessica Zodicoff and Layne Weinstein all went to the basket aggressively and took some great shots.

"These girls are having a great time and they're learning the game," said co-commissioner Andy Hollander. "They're really starting to get it. I think today we got a good look at the 2017 Roslyn Bulldog girls basketball team," he continued.

The girls were exhausted after 50 minutes of full court hustle and they gave way to the dads, who got on the court for the final 10 minutes of the hour. Team Busch defeated Team Hollander in a hotly contested game. Shooting guard Tony Furnari knocked off the rust to run away with MVP honors, sealing the trophy and the game on a sweet reverse lay-up. "I was just happy to be out there and be able to help the team get the 'W'," Furnari said in typical team first mentality.

This past week the girls participated in a clinic with Coach Michelle O'Brien, the highly regarded head coach of the St. Dominic's girl's team. The more than 20 girls who showed up for the clinic had a great time and really worked on their ball handling skills. Coach O'Brien came away impressed with how talented these girls are and promised to be back when it was time to recruit them to play for St. Doms.

The last session is Feb. 12, when the girls will get their hard-earned trophies and a pizza party.
