Union freshman Julie LaSpina of Roslyn Heights was named the Liberty League Women's Track & Field Co-Rookie of the Week on January 16.

Union College's women's track and field team opened the 2006 indoor season at Hamilton College Sunday. In the women's shot put, Union's Julie LaSpina won the event with a toss of 10.77. LaSpina also won the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.94, and she shared this week's honor with Hamilton's Akilah Bond.

The Dutchwomen return to action January 28 at the Wesleyan Invitational at 10 a.m.
