There have been so many emotional responses to this lawsuit. Perhaps there is a simple, peaceable and effective way to conduct some direct democracy and determine the true will of the people of this community.

Please join in an e-mail referendum. We all may use the directions that follow to send an e-mail to the general e-mailbox for Roslyn Schools, which is open to all residents of the Roslyn school district for communication. The Community Relations department has been forewarned, they understand that these votes are coming, and they have kindly agreed to collect the results. In respect for their time and willingness to assist, we need to keep it simple and short - thus, specific directions which will ensure uniformity and minimize the job at the receiving end.

Directions: Send three things only - your household name, address, and one of the following two statements: "continue the lawsuit" or "end the lawsuit." Any other statements or comments will not be counted. Send this e-mail to: roslynsd@roslynschools.org.

We obviously need to limit to one vote per taxpaying household. Anyone who prefers to write may use the general mailbox: Roslyn Public Schools, Box 367, zip 11576. Results will be collected as of January 25. Please also give these directions to your neighbors who may not read this newspaper, for the largest possible representation. Results will be tallied and communicated to the Board and the public.

In this way we can assist the Board in understanding what Roslyn really wants.
