Elizabeth McCloat, who is retiring this year after 20 years as director of the Bryant Library, received a very warm reception and several heartfelt tributes as she was honored by the Board of Education on January 5.

Karen Leon, the Roslyn High School librarian who spoke on behalf of the district's teachers, described some of the many collaborations that have flowered between the Bryant Library and the public schools over the years. Lorraine Rubin co-President of the CCPA, represented the district's parents in her remarks about the importance of the Library in the life of the school community.

Board President Stanley Stern and Superintendent David Helme presented Ms. McCloat with a citation from the Board of Education that read, "Dedicated to Elizabeth McCloat for her 20 years of devoted service to the intellectual life of the Roslyn community and for her contributions in fostering a positive relationship between the public library and the public schools of Roslyn."

Ms. McCloat, in turn, thanked the school district for its cooperation and openness through the years, and noted with justifiable pride that the close relationship between the public schools and the public library that Roslyn enjoys is an unusual one.
