Temple Beth Sholom will commemorate 9/11 at a Selichot Service, Saturday, Sept. 11.
Temple Beth Sholom and the Beth Sholom Judaica Museum are planning a yearlong calendar of events, commemorations, lectures and festivities honoring the 350th anniversary of American Jewry.
The first program will take place Sat., Sept. 11 at 9 p.m. The evening will include a keynote lecture by Dr. Shuly Rubin Schwartz, titled "Goodbye Columbus, Hello Christopher: The Evolution of American Jewry." Dr. Schwartz is the Irving Lehrman Research assistant professor of American Jewish History at the Jewish Theological Seminary and dean of its undergraduate school, the Albert A. List College of Jewish Studies.
Opening exhibition for the Judaica Museum: Beginning... from Torah to Haftarah to America. Featuring art and artifacts showing beginnings in Jewish life in America, the new comers activities and their achievements.
Commemorating 9/11 with Leonard Meiselman exhibit "Art Against Forgetting," depicting his emotions in the aftermath of the attacks and subsequent events of 9/11 and the sense of new beginnings and resolve.
The draping of the red, white and blue American flag and the black and white tallit proclaims, "We are American Jews standing together with all Americans." Leonard Meiselman was a design consultant to the President's Commission for a Holocaust Museum and continues to consult and exhibit at prominent Jewish organizations and museums.
