2004 is our 40th year as Roslyn residents. Over those years our family has reaped the benefits of living in a community where the schools and the library are both systems that make us proud indeed.

All four of our children went through 12 years in the Roslyn schools. Now that we are both semi-retired, it is the Bryant Library that continues to educate us. For us, learning never stops.

Of course our personal and property taxes have increased. It may be tempting to punish the library for the "sins" of Nassau County, as who wouldn't like to refuse any new taxes, especially when we're asked to decide. But a "no" vote on March 24 would only punish all of us.

What increase in services can we expect from the property reassessment? None. What benefits will we receive from an improved library? We think there'll be plenty.

This is a well-designed plan that needs a modest tax increase. Those of us who take advantage of the concerts, events, movies, regular programs and, of course, all that's available to borrow can verify that the building is old, overcrowded and uncomfortable.

We hope there's a "yes" vote for the expansion. At last we'll get something tangible for our money.
