The New York area experienced its first major snowstorm of the season this past weekend, but it didn't deter life in the Roslyn area very much. All the local villages and school districts reported no major incidents as a result of the huge snow, which fell to as much as 18 inches in some villages.
Personnel with some villages heaped praise upon their Department of Public Works employees for working long hours all throughout the weekend in order to keep business and residential streets as clear and safe as possible. According to personnel with the Village of Roslyn, DPW workers did an "outstanding job," working late on both Friday and Saturday nights and not slowing down until 3 a.m. on Sunday morning.
In Roslyn Estates, the village clerk praised that village's two DPW workers, Andy Budny and Rudy Sadiku for also working long hours. Those started on 4 p.m. on Friday and also worked until the early morning hours on Sunday, Dec. 7. The two had responsibility for 7.5 miles of roads in the village and managed to stay ahead of the storm by scrapping, plowing, and sanding all the village roads.
Meanwhile, the Roslyn Public Schools District was also open this past Monday. On Friday, Roslyn High School canceled their final period of classes so as to get all the school buses out and running as the storm intensified. The North Shore Public Schools stayed on their normal schedule on Friday.
