Trinity Episcopal Church in Roslyn welcomes the Reverend Margaret A. Peckham Clark as its new rector, starting immediately. The Reverend Clark is the 19th rector of Trinity Church and the first woman to hold the post at this historic church founded in 1862.
In addition to parish-based experience, Rev. Clark brings to Trinity a diverse background that includes serving as a federal law clerk in Bismarck, ND and as chair of the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG), an advocacy organization.
Before her selection as rector of Trinity Church, Rev. Clark was assistant rector at All Angels' Episcopal Church in New York City, where she coordinated their education programs. In New York City, she has also served at St. Martin's and St. Luke's Episcopal Church and the Church of the Epiphany.
"Trinity is a wonderfully, open and loving place, as well as being a national historic landmark. I am excited at the prospect of leading this marvelous place, working with it to become an even more integral part of this community," said Reverend Clark. "Trinity is a very accepting parish and we welcome people to come explore and grow their faith no matter what their background or convictions." Right now, Trinity has about 200 families in their membership.
Prior to becoming an Episcopal priest, Rev. Clark was law clerk to the Honorable Bruce M. Van Sickle, district court judge in the United States District Court for the District of North Dakota. She was also the chairperson of the New York Public Interest Research Group where she chaired a 35-member board and five-member executive committee. In recent years, she has also served on a community-based interfaith task force in lower Manhattan and as a chaplain with the American Red Cross.
She graduated cum laude from both the General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church in New York City; and New York Law School, where she was the executive editor of the Law Review. She is a native of Binghamton, NY.
The Trinity vestry elected Rev. Clark to the position of rector that was approved by the Right Reverend Orris G. Walker, Bishop of Long Island.
Trinity Church was founded in 1862 and then rebuilt in 1907 through the generosity of Katherine Duer Mackay. She commissioned renowned architect Stanford White to design the church and Louis Comfort Tiffany to create its stained glass windows.
