Like the most mellifluous sounds of an orchestra, many separate sections within the whole contribute to its overall success. That is precisely the way the efforts on the repeal of unfair and unjust tax worked this past legislative session in Albany.

Legislators in the State and County, The Mayor of East Hills, Civic Leaders, including Hilda Yohalem, Carmen Kraus and many other residents both from within East Hills, including Carolyn Horowitz, and, without, contributed to the one sound that was heard from our area: Eliminate a tax for services not available or used. It is preposterous to think that each person knew the efforts of another. Success, if it comes, should reap credit on many passionate people who were involved. It would be ludicrous for any one person to think that they alone were the success and to refuse credit to those who had also been instrumental.

That is why I must decry the assertion that Legislator Craig Johnson was not intimately involved with the efforts on the sewer tax. Those of us who were involved know well his dedication, contributions and leadership that he has shown on this bill. His primary efforts were through his Democratic counterpart in Albany, Assemblyman and co-Sponsor Tom DiNapoli.

Legislator Johnson will also be a pivotal force in ensuring that the bill, if signed by the Governor, will be implemented fairly and swiftly. Everyone who is affected owes the Legislator, Senator Balboni and Assemblyman DiNapoli unbounded credit for the success that, hopefully, will occur. Now let's hope that the Governor signs the bill and sounds the death knell for the sewer tax. It will be the grand finale that many people have worked long and hard to achieve.
