Robert Chlebicki has assumed the duties of North Shore Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, effective this month. He comes to the district from Rye Brook, where he had been principal of the Blind Brook Middle/High School since 1997. In that position, he exhibited leadership qualities in the areas of curriculum and staff development and instituted new programs such as science research and community service.

He also served as principal and assistant principal of Dobbs Ferry High School and Byram Hills High School, respectively. As a classroom teacher, he taught mathematics and Spanish. Mr. Chlebicki earned a B.A. from Iona College, and a M.S. in Educational Administration from Fordham University.

"We are thrilled to have Rob Chlebicki join us as assistant superintendent for instruction," said Superintendent of Schools Ed Melnick." His experience, knowledge and skills will add yet another perspective to our instructional leadership team. All of us will benefit as a result of Mr. Chlebicki's energy, enthusiasm and intelligence."

"On all grade levels, I want every student to go home every day excited about something they learned. This excitement is the path to lifelong learning," Chlebicki said of his teaching philosophy.

His immediate plans are to work with the instructional staff to further articulate the curriculum from kindergarten through Grade 12. "Every teacher will teach in his or her own style," Chlebicki said, "but the core of instruction will be the same, no matter what school a child attends or what teacher he has."

The benefit to mapping the curriculum, he said, is "to allow teachers to build on students' knowledge, that is, knowing where a child is at academically when coming into their class."

He is also excited about continuing to work with teachers, administrators and parents on the literacy initiative and reporting of student performance in math and literacy as well as other projects already underway.
