The Village of Roslyn Estates board of trustees will be weighing a bid by Verizon to construct an antenna tower/structure at 1044 Northern Boulevard. Verizon has filed for a building permit. In addition, they will need a special use permit from the building before any construction can begin. Such permits will require public hearings, ones that will probably take place at future BOT meetings.
In other news, early testing of the Birches Sewer Project proved satisfactory. Twenty-five homes in The Birches neighborhood of Roslyn Estates will be getting their own sewer system. Residents of those homes will be meeting shortly, under the auspices of a local civic association, to discuss hiring a connection contractor.
The new sewer system came into being after a resident in The Birches was having problems with the sanitary water system at his house. After alternative systems failed, the BOT began to consider the possibility of constructing a new sewer system for the area around The Birches where cesspool problems seemed to be most egregious. A survey by the village engineer resulted in the recommendation that a new district, consisting of 25 homes, be created. Since other residents in The Birches were also having problems with their cesspools, the BOT established The Birches Sanitary Sewer District, one to be fully paid for by the residents who would benefit from it. Roslyn Estates is believed to be the only village in New York in the last half century to have created a special sewer district for a portion of its residents.
From sewers to roadwork, the village has announced a draft of its comprehensive road project won't be finalized until the spring. On the same subject, the BOT passed a road work municipal agreement with the Town of North Hempstead. The agreement allows the TONH to perform "simple" paving jobs in the village.
