The North Shore field hockey team finished their regular season undefeated in their league. The next game was Tuesday, Nov. 3 - the first playoff game - against our all-time rival Carle Place. The teams met at Carle Place amid maroon balloons, streamers, and two great North Shore Viking banners, and at least 50 fans.
The game began at 3 p.m. and at halftime the score was 0 - 0. North Shore was dominating the play led by the offensive team of Michelle Cowley, Kerry Dennis, Lauren Foundos, Carrie Moran and Joanna Ogilvey, and links Alex Alonge, Michelle Post and Liz Savino. With about eight minutes left in the second half, Joanna Ogilvey scored on an assist from Carrie Moran. The defensive team led by Meg Brown, Amy Seng, Lauren VanVorst and Jen Hoefling and our two goalies Megan Smirti and Tori Cano were great, but with only 19 seconds left in the game Carle Place scored to tie the game. The teams went into overtime and Carle Place scored after four minutes on a disputed goal. The goal was good and Carle Place moved on to the next round.
The 1998 JV field hockey team was undefeated and will be a major contribution next year, when we all look forward to another winning season.
Thanks to our coach, Christine Rondeau for a great season and to our departing seniors, Megan Angliss, Melissa Ballinger, Meg Brown, Lauren Cowley, Kerry Dennis, Jen Hoefling, Suzie Kujawski, Erin McCormack, Carrie Moran, Michelle Post, Megan Smirti, Marissa Viscomi and Jenny Warner for all their hard work and leadership.
