The John Starks Foundation, headed by New York Knick basketball star John Starks, raised thousands of dollars at a VIP reception and silent auction held at the Roslyn Claremont Hotel on Sept. 13. The proceeds were shared with the Children's Cancer Center at nearby North Shore University Hospital.
The hotel's ballroom was overflowing as celebrikties and guests mingled and dined from an elegant buffet. New York Knicks stars Allan Houston, Charlie Ward, Chris Childs and coach Jeff Van Gundy autographed journals and posed for photographs along with ex-Knick Walt Frazier and former LA Rams quarterback Roman Gabriel.
The John Starks Foundation was created in 1994 to help youths and promote their education. It provides financial assistance to the Boys Brotherhood Republic and other not-for-profit youth organizations in the greater New York area, as well as academic assistance to underprivileged students in Tulsa area high schools. Starks was raised in Tulsa and maintains ties there.
