Acid Rain is damaging both our environment and health. Pollutants from motor vehicle emissions and industry are partly responsible. However, coal burning power plants in the mid-west, where environmental laws are deficient, are the primary cause.

Throughout New York State, forests, lakes and rivers are being destroyed by Acid Rain. Further, recent studies point to a rise in childhood respiratory problems, also a probable result of Acid Rain.

The issue must be addressed on the federal level; therefore, I am calling for Senators D'Amato and Moynihan to work toward passing legislation in this session of Congress for stricter environmental laws and stiff penalties for non-compliance.
