Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School recently announced Janelle Schlossberger as the 2007-2008 Valedictorian. Schlossberger is graduating with an overall grade point of 103.5, the highest the school has seen in many years. At the conclusion of the school year, Schlossberger will have amassed 12 Advanced Placement classes, 12 honors classes and 4 accelerated classes to her credit. Her total of 38.5 credits over the course of her high school career means that she had to cut out a lunch period and needed to stay after school to earn extra credit through the Science Research program. These courses have provided Janelle with a solid background on which to build her college education. In addition, Schlossberger is one half of the partnership with Amanda Marinoff to win the National Siemens Competition in December of 2007.

Schlossberger has received two perfect scores of 800 in the math section of the S.A.T. taken in March of June 2007 and an 800 in the writing section in June 2007. She scored 760 in the critical reading section to make a combined score of 1560 out of 1600 and 2360 out of 2400. In addition, she has scored a "5" on all five Advanced Placement exams taken up to this point.

Schlossberger does her fair share to help others. She volunteers at North Shore University Hospital in Plainview where she contributes to the general welfare of patients. To help others in the future, she has participated in experiments using the latest DNA technology at Cold Spring Harbor Labs. She has also worked in the Bio-Technology labs at SUNY Stony Brook, the Cardiac Cell Engineering Lab and the Chemistry Department at SUNY Stony Brook.

Schlossberger has served as a tour guide and historical interpreter at Old Bethpage Village Restoration. On her own time, She studies Mandarin, learns the art of Chinese calligraphy, plays the piano and violin and is the Editor-In-Chief of Creative Patterns, the district's literary-art magazine. Janelle will be attending Harvard in the fall.

Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School recently announced Amanda Marinoff as the 2007-2008 Salutatorian. Marinoff has participated in one of the most rigorous academic schedules that the school has to offer. Upon graduation, Marinoff will have completed eight Advanced Placement classes and eleven honors classes while maintaining a grade point average above 100. As a graduating senior, Amanda will have earned 36.5 credits, far surpassing the required credits of 22. Marinoff plans to attend Dartmouth in the fall.

Throughout her four years at the high school, Marinoff has participated in the Science Research program all four years of high school. Amanda is one half of the partnership with Janelle Schlossberger to win the National Siemens Competition in December of 2007.

Marinoff achieved a perfect score of 800 on the critical reading section of the March 2007 S.A.T. and a perfect score of an 800 on the writing section of the June 2007 S.A.T. She also achieved a 700 in the math section of the S.A.T.

Marinoff has spent the last three years volunteering at the Genesis School for children with autism. She has developed strong relationships with both students and teachers. For the past four years, Marinoff has been involved with the school newspaper, the Hawk Eye. Marinoff began her work with the paper as a staff writer and is finishing her career as the Editor-In-Chief.
