Maureen Bright, Superintendent of Hicksville Schools
The Hicksville Board of Education recently appointed Maureen Bright as the new superintendent of schools. Bright, who is currently celebrating her 10-year anniversary with the district, replaced Dr. Edward J. Finn who retired as of Aug. 1.

Bible School a Success
St. Ignatius Loyola parish recently hosted its first Vacation Bible School with an adventure through the Son Canyon River. Over 60 campers from as young as 3 years old to those children completing the fourth grade, and just as many volunteers attended the week-long event. The campers had an exciting time learning about Jesus and the great outdoors.

Hicksville Hockey Tryouts
Hicksville Ice Hockey Club, a member of the High School Hockey League of Nassau County, will hold tryouts on Sundays Aug. 18 and Sunday, Aug. 25 at Cantiague Park. Freshman tryouts, open to students in seventh to ninth grade, will take place from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. both days; Varsity tryouts, open to students in 10th to 12th grade, will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. both days. A $45 tryout fee and a $275 team deposit is required to try out. The team deposit will be returned if a player does not make the team. Liz Flahavan Finishes Vytra Women's Run
Three hundred ninety-nine finishers, including veteran speedster Liz Flahavan of Hicksville, recently competed in the 19th Annual Vytra Health Plans Long Island Women's 5 Kilometer Run held on Saturday, July 13 on the track of Farmingdale High School. The main event was preceded by a quarter mile Fun Run for young women 12 and under.
