In an effort to alleviate growing resident concerns, Trustee Nick Episcopia brought to the table the Franklin Court road-resurfacing project.
Many residents of the village's eastern section continue to endure substantial construction as the village repairs water mains, curbs and sidewalks.
Public Works Superintendent Robert Mangan provided Trustee Episcopia with an update, affirming the only costs residents would bear are for repairs for defects that existed prior to the installation of the new water mains. The village is handling all curb and road-resurfacing costs. The village board unanimously approved a contract to complete the work at $1,395,555.
According to Mangan, a total of eight catch basins are being replaced with six already completed. He anticipates four to six weeks for construction to begin on the curb replacements. He intends to hold a pre-construction meeting with the contractor in a week or two, Mangan added.
"I was delighted that the board of trustees on Thursday voted unanimously to approve a contract to complete the work at a cost of about $1.4 million. I have been assured that work will commence in a few weeks and I was very pleased that the regular resurfacing of the street has been pushed up a year so as not to inconvenience the residents again next year. It's not there yet, but I'm happy to report that the end is in sight," Trustee Episcopia told Garden City Life.
