The department has again secured tickets on consignment for several amusement parks in the area. The parks and ticket prices are as follows:

There is no difference in price for adults or children. These prices reflect a discount on the "walk up" admission. Tickets are limited and will be sold first come, first served until they are gone. The recreation department will be holding a series of clinics geared towards teaching children ages 10-18 the exciting game of team handball. Experienced instructors will run these clinics, which will be held in the St. Paul's Field House Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning Wednesday, June 4. All fundamentals and strategies of the game will be learned. This free program is open to ages 10-18 who are living in Garden City. Registration will take place the first evening of the program. The recreation department's preschool camp is a fun way for children ages 3 and a half to 5 years old who live in Garden City to spend the summer. Children who attend this camp must be 3 and a half years by the start of their session and proof of age is required. Arts and crafts, music, nature and stories will fill the 1 and a half-hour class. This class will be held in St. Paul's Cluett Hall from 10:30 a.m. to noon and will be taught by Patricia Haas Leonenko, preschool teacher at St. Joseph's School. The cost of a one-week session is $75.

Session 4 - July 28-Aug. 1

Come join us and learn what it takes to pass, dribble and shoot in this camp. This camp will be held at St. Paul's Field House the week of June 30 according to the following schedule:

Entering Grades 2-3, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Entering Grades 4-6, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This camp is for children entering Grades 2-6 in September who live in Garden City. It is a basic camp that will teach the techniques of catching, throwing and shooting through fun drills. The children will also learn the rules of the game through scrimmaging. The camp will be held at Stewart Field from 9:30 a.m. to noon the week of July 7 and the week of July 14 (Monday through Thursday). The cost of this four-day camp is $85.

This four-day camp will stress skill development as well as the rules of the game. The camp will be held Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to noon and will cost $85.

Children must be 6 by the start of the session in order to participate. The camp will focus on individual skills and the importance of playing together as a team. The cost of this program will be $75. When: Week of July 21-24 and Week of July 28-31 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. for ages 6-8 and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for ages 9-12.

This instructional program will be offered for boys and girls ages 6-12. Youngsters must be 6 at the start of the camp and entering first grade in September in order to register. Proof of age will be required.

The two-hour session will run from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. at a cost of $75 and will focus on individual skill development. The five-hour session will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at a cost of $160. The five-hour session will include an hour lunch break and recreation session supervised by the soccer camp staff to be followed by full field games.

The purpose of the program is to provide a fun-filled soccer learning experience incorporating the values of sportsmanship. Youngsters will be placed in age-appropriate groups with the instructor/camper ratio not to exceed 1-10. Safe playing techniques and team cooperation will also be stressed. Each participant will receive a T-shirt.

Equipment needed: Cleats or sneakers, shin guards and a soccer ball and lunch with drink if attending full-day program. Please note this program will now be held at the St. Paul's Athletic Facility.

When: Week of Aug. 4 and Week of Aug. 11 at St. Paul's fields between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. or 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for $75 (half-day) and $160 (full-day).

The recreation department's tennis camp program offers children who live in Garden City an opportunity to learn or advance their tennis skills while working with experienced tennis pros in a fun setting. The camps are set by age and children will be grouped according to ability within their camp. The age of the child at the start of the session will determine which session the child may attend and proof of age may be required. All camps will be held at the Community Park tennis facility.

Each child may sign up for a maximum of two sessions. Equipment is needed - flat-soled sneakers and a tennis racket. All tennis camps will follow the same session dates:

A June 30-July 3

B July 7-10

C July 14-17

D July 21-24

E July 28-31

F Aug. 4-7

G Aug. 11-14

H Aug. 18-21

Pee Wee Tennis - for ages 4-5. Skills are learned by fun and easy to do drills taught by tennis professionals. 9 to 10 a.m. for $45.

Novice Camp - for ages 6-7. This camp will teach serving, rallying and the basics of a tennis game, keeping it fun for the younger tennis set. 2:30 to 4 p.m. for $75.

Junior Camp - for ages 8-11. For all levels of experience, this two and one-quarter hour camp will group players by ability so that everyone can move to the next level. 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. for $90.

Junior Camp Plus - for children ages 8-11 who are looking for a full day of tennis. This camp will teach tennis instruction in the morning, followed by lunchtime and a special activity, then end the day with tennis matches. Children must bring their lunch for this camp. 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for $200.

Senior Camp - for students ages 12-18 who are either looking to learn to play tennis or would like to get better at the game. 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for $90.

There are limited openings available for the first session of adult tennis instruction. For further information or to register, please visit the recreation office at 108 Rockaway Avenue. Applications for the 2008-09 women's tennis leagues can be picked up at the Community Park Tennis Center. Openings are limited, but spots are available depending on skill level and days available to play. For more information call the Community Tennis Center at 483-2525. Applications must be picked up in person.
