A 23-year-old Garden City female fell victim to a robbery while walking along Wellington Road, at Newmarket Road, in Garden City May 10. According to Garden City police, five subjects, including one who placed what appeared to be a gun to her head while the others removed her purse and cell phone, approached the victim.
Garden City Police Officers Reynolds and Wehr immediately responded to the scene and began investigating.
Turns out, five Elmont residents were deemed to be responsible for four similar robberies in the Fifth Precinct area between Friday, May 9 at 10:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 10 at 7:50 a.m.
Fifth Precinct officers arrested Kemar Moore, 22, a 16-year-old whose name is being withheld because of her age, Francis Metellus, 22, Tiffany DeWalker, 17, and Monique White, 17, inside a black Nissan stopped for a notification for the following other crimes: a grand larceny on West Valley Stream Boulevard at Hamilton, Valley Stream, where a male victim, 59, had his bag and cell phone stolen, a robbery on Merrick Road at Roeckel Avenue, Valley Stream, where a male victim, 19, was robbed of money and a cell phone, a robbery at Kingston Street and Greenway Boulevard, Elmont, where a female victim, 60, was robbed of her pocketbook and lunch bag, and a grand larceny that occurred at Hempstead Turnpike, Elmont, where they stole the wallet from a male victim, 39.
While Fifth Precinct officers placed Metellus in the back of Radio Motor Patrol 510, Fifth Precinct Detective Goldman stated that Metellus kicked out the rear passenger side window and caused damage to the frame.
All five defendants were each charged with six counts of robbery second degree (C felony). The 16-year-old was additionally charged with one count of grand larceny fourth degree (E felony). Moore was additionally charged with two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon fourth degree (A misdemeanor). Metellus was additionally charged with one count each of grand larceny fourth degree and criminal mischief third degree (E felony).
All five defendants were slated for arraignment in First District Court, Hempstead Sunday, May 11.
According to the Fifth Precinct, the Nissan was impounded and police officers recovered two guns (BB and C02) and one electric stun gun from the glove box. Additional proceeds were recovered from the vehicle.
